Wesley Campus Ministry
is a United Methodist organization at the University of North
Carolina. Begun in the 1940’s in the
basement of University Methodist Church,
the ministry now is located at 214
Pittsboro Street, next to the Newman Catholic Center
and across the street from the Carolina Inn. It is a ministry for the
University community, and our primary focus is the undergraduate student.
Though we reach out to faculty, staff and graduate students in various
ways, our most intentional programs are designed to serve students in
their first four years of higher education
Wesley is a place to
be. Our building provides space for students to study, socialize, rest,
pray and worship. Students call this their “home away from home.” We have
a small residential community, Wesley House. We have a kitchen where you
can prepare your lunch or afternoon snack while you study. We have a
chapel where you can come for private prayer and devotion, or just quiet
time.
Wesley is a place to
belong. Our active student program provides opportunities for fellowship,
service, worship and spiritual growth. From pre-game tailgate parties to
alternative spring break mission trips, from Sunday evening worship to
small group Bible studies, Wesley is a community where friendships are
formed, where all persons are welcomed, regardless of theological
perspective, and where each student can find a place to lead or
participate.
Wesley is a place to
become. Our ministries are developed with one goal in mind: helping
students to grow in their love for and commitment to God. No one comes to
Wesley with the idea of leaving as they came. Through relationships and
programs God is at work helping all who come here to become the person
God created us to be. It is a powerful, healing, sustaining place.
We call what happens
here Big Wesley Love. I like to think of it as Big God Love: God
providing a sanctuary, a community, a safety net
- where all God’s children in this University can come, be sustained,
challenged and loved. There is no place like it at UNC. Come join in the
fun, the love, the growth. You will be glad you did.
